Prof. Dr. Yusuf Halacoglu, director of the History Institution, said a decision has been made not to reveal the letters left by Latife Hanim, the former wife of Ataturk. He said “Her family sent us a letter requesting that the letters not be disclosed. This issue has been closed. We must respect this right and at this time can not disclose anything about these letters.”Emin Colasan, who asserts that the private life of Ataturk should not be disclosed, says “A select few in Turkey are trying to make Ataturk and Latife Hanim a Media Toy. The Islamist media hoped to use Latife Hanim to attack Ataturk. They were yelling yesterday to disclose these documents. Halacoglu, who is in close contact with this select few, even started talking about the love letters of Ataturk while wiping his shoes with a table cloth. Halacoglu is known to those close to him as a follower of Abdulhamid and Fethullah." Colasan went on “Some pseudo-intellectual journalists contacted Mrs Latife's inheritor in hope of receiving these documents. The inheritor and journalists wanted to make a film and book from these documents. They are only interested in the money. I will disclose their names if necessary too. These documents were sealed by the court. So how could Halacoglu have read them? How come he made revelations about letters that he supposedly couldn't have read ? Thankfully, their plans to use these letters to smear the name of Attaturk have failed for the moment. "
