Agriculture Minister Mehde Eker was put to the test during a live appearance on a Channel A's "Agenda" program yesterday. Calling for calm in the wake of the appearance of bird flu in Turkey, Eker said "Right now, there is no risk surrounding bird flu. There is no danger from any poultry animal which has been slaughtered under vetrinary control. I eat chicken meat in full security." Following this statement, Eker was offered a plate of fried chicken by the Omer Sahin, the host of "Agenda," who asked Eker "Would you eat this on live broadcast?"
The Minister of Agriculture declined Sahin's offer, saying "Since I don't know under what circumstances this chicken was slaughtered, I have to say no. It is not because I think eating chicken meat is harmful to the health though."
