Ten islands situated in the largest fresh water lake in Turkey, Beyşehir Lake, are no more because of excessive water use. Yüksel Ergun, mayor of the Yeşildağ mountain resort in Konya’s Beyşehir district, said, “The water has drained from around the 10 islands of varying size contained within the lake, leaving these areas to be used for grazing cattle, sheep and goats.”

Ergun stated that precautions needed to be taken in order to avoid the same thing happening to Haciakif and other islands in the lake. “We need to take responsibility for this lake, and minimize water used for agricultural purposes in order to avoid the decreasing of water levels.”
