Opposition leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Deniz Baykal said that the ruling government would see out it's fourth summer and be replaced by a new government in 2006. Many believe that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will call on early elections in 2006 instead of waiting till November 2007 and capitalize on the recent success of winning the European Accession talks.

"Next year is an election year. Turkish people will finally get the new government it has been demanding,"he said.

Baykal described Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as an Arab sheikh, adding: You came to power in an election and you will be thrown out in an election. You will then pay the price for what you have done at the Supreme State Council."

These comments come as the CHP have just lost two more deputies, who joined the Motherland Party (ANAVATAN). Baykal's bitter opposition over Turkey's EU stance and heavy-handed ruling has divided the party, some analysts say that the CHP is expected to lose their chances of passing a 10% threshold, and come out of the elections the biggest looser.
