Deniz Baykal, the Chairman of Republican People's Party (CHP) prevented his party to launch a motion that was to end the prison punishment of former DEP deputy Leyla Zana and her 3 friends.

After the court upheld the 15-year prison sentence of the former deputies on April 21, CHP's Deputy Group Chairman Haluk Koc had said that his party will launch a motion Monday, to amend the execution law so as to equalize the sentences given to terror crimes, with the sentences given to the ordinary crimes. In that case, the four Kurd-origin convicts were to be released, deemed serving two 5th of their sentence already.

Immediately on his return from Brussels on Monday, Baykal prevented the processing of the motion, saying that such a move would  pave way to the release of the militants of PKK and Hizbullah too.

Meanwhile, Baykal who raised opposition to the adoption of the Annan Plan, now wants to tour the world with PM Erdgan, to have TRNC recognized.
