Artillery rounds and gun fire have damaged windows and cracked walls in the town of Cukurca, outside the Turkish southeastern city of Hakkari, which lies near the Turkish-Iraqi border, as Turkish troops target routes used by PKK terrorists to travel across the border dividing the two countries.

Lying almost directly on the Turkish-Iraqi border, the town of Cukurca has a population of 7,500 citizens, and the noise and trembling coming from the nearby Turkish 3rd Commando Brigade nearby have elicited complaints from Cukurca citizens, who note that mostly children are being affected by the activity near the border.
