A meeting of government ministers yesterday in Ankara resolved itself in a decision to send Turkish soldiers to Lebanon to take part in an international peace-keeping force. Spokesperson for the AKP-led administration, Cemil Cicek, told press members that the administration would be meeting again this week to vote, but that "This is our decision. There have however been many inappropriate analyses made about this news, as though it would cause domestic weakness.

These are not analyses which befit a government as strong as ours."

Cicek's comments came following a 3.5 hour meeting of government ministers yesterday in Ankara, as well as in the wake of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer's comments that he was opposed to the sending of soldiers to Lebanon.
